Magnesium Stearate
Mg(C₁₇H₃₅COO)₂ | CAS: 557-04-0 | HS: 29157090
Product Description
Magnesium Stearate is the ubiquitous pharmaceutical tablet lubricant — present in the majority of solid oral dosage forms (tablets, capsules) produced globally. Its incomparable die-wall lubrication properties, chemical inertness, and long regulatory track record have made it the default tablet lubricant in pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is used at low levels (0.1–2%) to prevent tablet sticking, reduce punch wear, and improve tablet ejection force without adversely affecting dissolution. MITCHEM supplies pharma-grade MgSt with USP/NF/EP CoA and full regulatory documentation for pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Applications by Industry
The dominant tablet compression lubricant in solid oral pharmaceutical dosage forms — reduces die-wall friction, prevents punch and die sticking, and ensures clean tablet ejection at 0.25–1% typical levels.
Applied to powder blends filled into hard gelatin and HPMC capsules to improve powder flow and prevent capsule machine jamming during high-speed encapsulation.
Used as a flow agent and lubricant in nutritional supplement tablets and capsules; food-grade and kosher/halal grades available for health supplement applications.
Provides smooth skin application feel and adhesion in face powder, pressed compact, and colour cosmetic formulations — water-repellent properties improve product wear and skin adhesion.
