Calcium Stearate
Ca(C₁₇H₃₅COO)₂ | CAS: 1592-23-0 | HS: 29157090
Product Description
Calcium Stearate is the leading metallic soap lubricant and stabiliser in PVC and plastics processing — an essential component of the calcium-zinc (Ca/Zn) stabiliser systems that have replaced toxic lead and cadmium stabilisers in food contact, medical, and environmentally regulated PVC applications. It provides external lubrication (reduces melt adhesion to metal surfaces) and contributes to thermal stability. In food applications (E470a) it is an anti-caking and release agent in powdered food ingredients. MITCHEM supplies plastic, food, and pharma grades with appropriate certifications.
Applications by Industry
Core component of lead-free Ca/Zn PVC heat stabiliser systems for pipes, profiles, films, and food-contact rigid PVC applications — captures HCl evolved during thermal processing.
External lubricant in PVC, polyolefin, and engineering plastic processing — reduces melt-metal adhesion, improves surface finish of extruded profiles, and reduces die build-up.
Used as an anti-caking agent in powdered food products and as a release agent for confectionery moulds; approved food additive in EU and Codex Alimentarius.
Applied as a tablet compression lubricant and anti-caking agent in pharmaceutical solid dosage forms; food-grade and pharma-grade supplied with CoA and full pharmacopeial documentation.
