Sulphuric Acid
H₂SO₄ | CAS: 7664-93-9 | HS: 28070010
Product Description
Sulphuric Acid is the highest-tonnage industrial chemical in the world — a foundational commodity whose production volume is used as an economic indicator of industrial activity. Its applications span fertiliser production (phosphate processing), chemical manufacturing, metal leaching and processing, petroleum refining, battery electrolyte, and water treatment. Approximately 60% of global H₂SO₄ production goes into phosphoric acid for fertilisers. MITCHEM supplies commercial concentration and dilute grades in UN-certified HDPE drums and IBC tanks with full corrosive goods and ADR/IMDG documentation for domestic and export supply.
Applications by Industry
Reacts with phosphate rock to produce phosphoric acid and downstream superphosphate and triple superphosphate fertilisers; also used to produce ammonium sulphate from ammonia.
Dilute H₂SO₄ is the primary pickling acid for steel coil before galvanising, cold rolling, and surface coating; also used for copper leaching in hydrometallurgy.
Battery-grade dilute H₂SO₄ is the electrolyte in lead-acid batteries for automotive, UPS, and industrial energy storage applications.
Essential reagent for producing LABSA (sulphonation of LAB), nitrating acid (H₂SO₄/HNO₃ mixtures), pharmaceuticals, dyes, and a broad range of organic and inorganic intermediates.
