Hydrochloric Acid
HCl (aqueous) | CAS: 7647-01-0 | HS: 28061000
Product Description
Hydrochloric Acid is one of the highest-tonnage mineral acids in global industrial use — a versatile, strong acid with irreplaceable applications in steel processing, chemical synthesis, food production, and oil & gas. In steel manufacturing, HCl is the primary pickling acid for removing mill scale and oxide layers prior to galvanising, cold rolling, and coating. Food-grade HCl is used for starch hydrolysis, protein hydrolysis, and pH adjustment in food and beverage production. MITCHEM supplies in corrosion-resistant HDPE IBC tanks and drums with full ADR/IMDG corrosive goods compliance documentation.
Applications by Industry
Primary acid for removing mill scale, rust, and oxide layers from steel coil, wire, and structural sections prior to galvanising, tin plating, and cold rolling.
Essential feedstock for producing vinyl chloride monomer (PVC), chlorinated solvents, ferric chloride, aluminium chloride, and a broad range of chlorinated organic and inorganic chemicals.
Used in matrix acidising and acid fracturing of carbonate formations to increase permeability and well productivity in oil and gas production.
Food-grade HCl is used in corn syrup production (starch hydrolysis), gelatine manufacture, beer brewing (pH adjustment), and as a food additive (E507) in various applications.
