Barium Nitrate

Ba(NO₃)₂  |  CAS: 10022-31-8  |  HS: 28342920

Product Description

Barium Nitrate is a powerful oxidising barium salt and the source of the iconic bright green colour in pyrotechnics and fireworks. It is one of the most internationally traded specialty oxidisers, exported from India to fireworks manufacturers across Europe, the Americas, and Asia Pacific. Beyond pyrotechnics, it serves as a barium oxide source in specialty glass and as a surface treatment oxidiser. MITCHEM supplies all grades from technical through pyrotechnic with full oxidising materials safety documentation, UN classification, and hazmat-compliant packaging for international air and sea freight.

Applications by Industry

Pyrotechnics & Fireworks (Green Colour)

Primary oxidiser in green-colour pyrotechnic star compositions, signal flares, and sparklers; barium ions emit characteristic green light at ~505 nm when excited in the flame.

Military & Signal Flares

Used in military illuminating shells, railway detonators, and marine signal flares requiring reliable green identification signals.

Specialty Glass Manufacturing

Source of barium oxide in specialty optical and crystal glass batch, improving refractive index and UV absorption properties.

Metal Surface Treatment

Used as an oxidising component in specialty metal surface treatment baths and in the manufacture of barium-based surface coatings.
