Aluminium Sulphate

Al₂(SO₄)₃  |  CAS: 10043-01-3  |  HS: 28332200

Product Description

Aluminium Sulphate (Alum) is the world's most widely used water coagulant — a position it has held for over a century. In water treatment it hydrolyses to form aluminium hydroxide floc that efficiently captures suspended solids and turbidity at economical cost. Iron-free grades are essential in paper manufacturing where colour contamination is unacceptable, and in the textile industry as a mordant. Food-grade alum (E520) is used in food processing and as a firming agent in pickled vegetables. MITCHEM supplies multiple grades with full quality documentation for municipal, industrial, and food applications.

Applications by Industry

Water Treatment Coagulant

The proven baseline coagulant for municipal drinking water and industrial process water clarification; reliable turbidity, colour, and suspended solids removal at lowest cost per tonne of water treated.

Paper Manufacturing (Sizing)

Traditional sizing agent in acid papermaking — precipitating rosin onto fibres to make paper hydrophobic and resistant to ink penetration.

Textile Mordant

Used as a mordant in natural dye processes and for fixing certain synthetic dye classes onto cotton and wool fibres, improving colour fastness.

Food Industry (E520)

Food-grade aluminium sulphate is used as a firming agent in pickling brines, as a baking powder component, and as an acidity regulator in select food applications.
