Magnesium Carbonate
MgCO₃ | CAS: 546-93-0 | HS: 28369900
Product Description
Magnesium Carbonate is a versatile inorganic mineral with a broad cross-sector application profile spanning pharmaceuticals, food, rubber, sports, and construction. In pharmaceuticals, both light and heavy grades are used as antacid APIs, tablet excipients, and laxative formulations — supplied by MITCHEM to USP/EP pharmacopeial standards with full regulatory documentation. The light (precipitated) grade is the preferred chalk for gymnastics, rock climbing, and weightlifting due to its high surface area and superior moisture absorption. In rubber compounding, it functions as a mild activator in neoprene formulations.
Applications by Industry
Used as an antacid active ingredient, co-lubricant, and glidant in solid dosage tablet manufacturing; pharma-grade supplied with USP/EP CoA and full regulatory documentation.
Used as an anti-caking agent in table salt, dried vegetables, and powdered foods, and as an acidity regulator and colour stabiliser in food processing.
The light precipitated grade is the premium chalk for hand grip in gymnastics, rock climbing, and weightlifting — high surface area provides superior moisture absorption and grip improvement.
Functions as a mild activator and processing aid in neoprene (polychloroprene) rubber, improving cure rate and reducing compound tack.
Used as a filler in fire-resistant boards, insulation materials, and magnesia cements where magnesium oxide release upon heating provides endothermic fire resistance.
